May, 2006 AVIONICS, ELECTRICS, & CONTROLS

May 5 - Put away Wicks order.  Install mount tray, Sandia encoder, BMA Autopilot controller, and fuse blocks.  Remove Sandia and cut lightening hole in Sandia encoder mount plate.  Reinstall Sandia.  1.5 hr

May 7 - Remove BMA A/P controller and cut out F745L rib for BMA controller connectors  1.0 hr

May 8 - finish rib cutouts, reinstall BMA controller  0.5 hr

May 16 - Work on layout for fuse blocks.  Will need at least one more block for the emergency bus.  I'd like to find some smaller than what I got from SteinAir.  Even though I hate Waytek and their customer attitude and business practices, I looked over their catalog for smaller fuse blocks and some other stuff.  They have good products, but bad customer service, like Hooker Harness and Andair.  1.75 hr

May 17 - Finished laying out fuse blocks.   0.5 hr

May 18 - Ordered small compact fuse block and some other wiring stuff from Waytek.

May 19 - Waytek sent me an email, bitching because their web site creates a new account for each web order and so it gave me a duplicate account number.  They even held the order until the "problem" was resolved.   Such a great customer-oriented organization!

May 24 - received & put away order from SteinAir for wiring supplies.  I got a wiring distribution block in my order, but it seems HUGE and HEAVY.   I may return it and use one I already have, or even a Radio Shack one.

The top one is the 16-position distribution block I got from SteinAir.  Below it is the 14-position one I already had.  I had a whole box of these of different sizes and lengths, but I ordered a new one because mine are about 30+ years old and slightly oxidized.  I'd thought a new one would be better, but this one is way too big and heavy, so I just used a brass brush on the old one and used that.  I kept the one I ordered, as it only cost $4.25 and isn't worth the cost to return it.

May 26 - Received and unpacked Waytek order.  They screwed the order up in several ways, so will have to call them on that.  They sent me single-wall heatshrink labeled as dual wall.  I also don't like the fuse block I got from them.  It isn't like the one I got from SteinAir - there is no common terminal.  So, I will have to buy some large Faston terminals and make up something to tie all the leads on one side together.

This is one of the 2 larger 12-circuit fuse blocks I got from SteinAir back in April.   They are mounted now, but I needed a smaller one, preferably single row, for my Emergency Bus.  So, I ordered a different style from Waytek.

This is the compact 10-circuit ATO fuse block I got from Waytek.  It's nice that it's compact and inline, but it's designed for separate circuits - no single hot lead.   So, I will have to get large Faston terminals, and jumper one side all together.  I should use #14 for that, and 2 #14 wires wont fit into the "blue" Fastons I have, so I have to get some bigger ones
